Butterfly valves are used as isolating and regulating devices on aqueducts, waterworks, hydroelectric plants, and nuclear plants.
Butterfly valves offer the following benefits:
- Low pressure losses with valve in completely open position
- Drop tight closure
- Reduced overall dimensions
- Simple construction then intrinsically reliable
- Manually or electrically operated
- Possibility to be used as safety valve (positive safety valve able to close even in
case of tampering)
In addition to the above mentioned technical advantages there is a remarkable economical benefit because this valve is cheaper than the gate valve and similar valves with the same working conditions and with the same constructive materials.
By means of a Finite Element Analysis calculation software (FEM) we have designed a disk presenting, in full open position, the lowest obstacle cross section and a hydrodynamic shape maintaining at the same time the best resistance and mechanical stiffness. |
